The 22nd EFPRA Congress built on the success of previous events with an interesting and enjoyable social and technical programme. In total, 537 delegates (including exhibitors) made it to Amsterdam from around the world, of course, with the majority from Europe which is EFPRA’s focus.
“Everyone attending will have their own highlight of the event. For some it will be the informal meetings which can be the starting point for new partnerships and opportunities. For others, the technical and market presentations. But it was clear from the buzz in the conference venue and the conversations continuing over three days of Congress that this is an event that goes from strength-to-strength,” says Dirk Dobbelaere.
“As General Secretary based in Brussels, the presentation from Dr Reviriego Gordejo, Head of Animal Health at DG Sante was especially interesting. It outlined the decision-making timetable for the use of Category 1 ash as fertiliser and approved processing methods for porcine PAPs. The detail of both regulations will be important for many EFPRA members, and we continue to make our case to the Commission based on scientific evidence.
“The consequences of the recent European elections are still not fully understood so many delegates were pleased to hear from Luc Vernet of Farm Europe who gave us a preliminary assessment of what to expect in the new Parliament: ‘Very similar, but absolutely different’ was his assessment.
“The other important piece of news is that Sjors Beerendonk has stepped down as President of EFPRA to be replaced by Robert Figgener who will add his own thoughts on the Congress and the coming years for EFPRA to our website soon.”
