EFPRA held successful discussions on trade and co-operation with a Vietnamese delegation, including the deputy minister for agriculture Mr. Phung Duc Tien, who attended the EuroTier fair in Hannover.
Vietnam imports a significant quantity of feed and feed ingredients to meet its annual demand of 25-30 million tonnes. EFPRA is keen to understand how its members can help Vietnamese companies meet their feed requirements.
The delegation also included the agricultural Counsellor of Vietnam to the EU Mr. Tran Van Cong, and high-ranking entrepreneurs from the feed and livestock industry. They gained a real insight into the European animal by-products sector thanks to two site visits.
EFPRA President Dr. Robert Figgener planned the event. “We visited the Westfleisch cattle slaughterhouse in Luebbecke and Sarval-Fischermanns’ Category 3 rendering plant in Dissen. Both of these sites are relatively close to Hannover and demonstrated the high-standards of meat production and handling of animal by-products in Europe.”
Dr. Martin Alm, EFPRA Technical Director, explained European animal by-products legislation as well as safe sourcing and processing of raw materials, especially ruminant proteins.
The delegation invited EFPRA to visit Hanoi in the near future and continue discussions about deepening co-operation.
EFPRA would like to thank Westfleisch and Sarval-Fischermanns for welcoming the delegation to their facilities.
