EFPRA is holding a seminar on Processed Animal Protein (PAP) applications in feed at the upcoming VIV Asia exhibition in Bangkok, 12 – 14 March. This seminar will discuss the key safety and sustainability aspects of European animal proteins in feed for livestock and aquaculture animals.
“Only safe feed ingredients guarantee healthy animal production and nutritious meat and eggs,” says Dirk Dobbelaere EFPRA General Secretary. “European Animal proteins are unique because production follows the strict principle that only safe raw materials, processed safely can guarantee a safe and healthy end product.”
What sounds simple actually relies on a complex system of processes and checks at every stage of production. Unlike Meat and Bone Meal (MBM), European Processed Animal Proteins (PAPs) only contain raw material from healthy slaughtered animals. Other animals or products containing harmful or dangerous substances like forbidden medication, hormones, contaminants, manure, waste etc. are excluded.
Every step in the process, from collection to the final product, is fully traceable and under veterinary control, no matter what species is processed. Fresh raw material is collected and processed within 24 hours. All processing methods are scientifically evaluated and approved as safe especially with regard to ASF/CSF, FMD and AI. Regular testing ensures products fulfil microbiological standards like being free of salmonella.
